Thanks for addressing an issue that is troublesome for many of us as we age. It’s made more difficult for those of us who are not apple-shaped, but rather hourglass figures that are generously built above and below waists that have grown larger over time.

Your advice on creating vertical lines is spot-on for those who may not feel comfortable with slim-cut pants or flowy tops. Vests, well-cut jackets and toppers, and long scarves and necklaces can do wonders!

Sorry to hear about your condition. If your belly is very pronounced it’s not possible to hide it completely but all the tips above will help camouflage it. I am short (5’3″) and weigh around 130. My problem is that I have a liver condition which causes my stomach to swell to the point of causing stretch marks. People assume I’m anywhere from 8-9 months pregnant because my abdomen is also very firm. I’ve tried shapers but nothing is form enough. Even most doctors think I’m in my last trimester. I used to LOVE waist cinching clothes because I always had an hour glad figure. I no longer know how to dress or even my size. I can range anywhere from size 3 to size 8/10 within any given month. Because of this I usually hide in my house, no longer feeling sexy or confident. Only feeling like I’m pregnant 365 days a year. I really want to learn to dress with this body type, but am I stuck wearing maternity clothes for the rest of my life? I really want to feel confident again without looking pregnant. Is that even possible?? HELP!

The thing is I can choose either skinny young model or young plus size model. Brands simply don’t offer anything in between.
That does NOT mean that the items are shown are ineffective. Many of the items come in bigger sizes and if you follow the guidelines in this article, play with them and find out what works for you, your belly will be a lot less visible.

I would like to know why all your models are a size 4? They do not have bellies that delivered twins. They are totally unrealistic to fit this artical . The styles are beautiful if you’re 5 ft. 10. How about using real people with real flaws to model before and after shots?
So none of these styles fit a 5 ft 3 with a real belly.

Very interesting article but why can’t we see real women with real bellies wearing your suggestions?
I am 62 covering my belly but I definitely don’t look like those models in the clothes in your blog when I look in my mirror.

In reply to Amelia. Wow!! Amelia you just described me!! Size 8 even after 3 kids. Then meno hit went to a 16 but took a couple of years. Hate it!! I also am big from tummy all the way up! I wear tops that emphasize my bust then falls loosly down over my tummy. Like unusual necklines and embellishment around the bust area. I have lots of patterned tops to. I wear harem type pants for comfort. Hope this helps you a bit. Oh I also hate how they use skinny models!!
