They are more the ugly Christmas sweater crowd, so I’ve decided to wear some red plaid pajamas as if it were a gorgeous silk lounge ensemble that some of the society pages crowd sometimes sports at swanky parties. I plan to dress it up wear spike-heeled suede booties and, after the appetizer happy hour, I will take off the pajama top to reveal a charming little black sequin-studded mid-century cardigan bought long ago in a vintage boutique. Underneath all that, I will, of course, have proper underthings (Spanks tights, an old-fashioned pants slip, etc.). For me this will be a way to combine a bit of glamour with the jokey, who-cares-about-fashion vibe of everyone else.
